
Synopsis
Twelve-year-old Maryam, living in Upper Egypt, is made to wear a white veil to school as dictated by local traditions, but she finds her own way to rebel!
About the Director
Marianne Hanna, is a director and filmmaker who graduated from the Directing Department at the Higher Institute of Cinema. She worked as an assistant director in a number of films and series, including “19B” by Ahmad Abdalla El Sayed, “The Family Group” by Manal El-Saifi, and “Today Before Tomorrow” by Maggie Morgan, along with several short films.
Her short film “Souad “ was selected for the student film competition at the Sharm El Sheikh Asian Film Festival. Her first documentary, “Kishk Beshay”, was screened at the Ismailia International Film Festival and received a Special Mention from the jury at the fourth edition of the Cairo Shorts Film Festival. Her graduation project, “If the Cat Is Gone”, was screened at the seventh edition of the Aswan International Women’s Film Festival, the first edition of the Egyptian American Film Festival in New York, the Zawya Short Film Festival, and the Manassat Short Film Festival.
